"Indeed, everything has a pinnacle, and the pinnacle of the Quran is Sūrat al-Baqarah. When Satan hears Sūrat al-Baqarah being recited, he leaves the house in which it is being recited." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (1/561) through the route of ʿAmr ibn Abī Qays from ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, both as a statement attributed to him and as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. He said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is ḥasan in my view because there is some weakness in ʿĀṣim due to his memory. The latter half of it has another route with him from ʿĀṣim similar to it. The first half was recorded by al-Dārimī (2/447) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿĀṣim, attributed to Ibn Masʿūd, with the addition: "Indeed, everything has a core, and the core of the Quran is the mufassal." I say: Its isnād is ḥasan. The ḥadīth has supporting evidence from the narration of Sahl ibn Saʿd, attributed to the Prophet, similar to it, and another from the narration of Abū Hurayrah similar to it, both of which are recorded in the other book (1348 and 1349). The first part of it has another supporting evidence from the narration of Maʿqil ibn Yasār, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: "Al-Baqarah is the pinnacle of the Quran and its peak; with each of its verses, eighty angels descended, and * (Allāh, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer) * was extracted from beneath the Throne and connected with it..." It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/26) from a man from his father from him. I say: This isnād is evidently weak, and the first man was named in some routes as Abū ʿUthmān, and it was clarified that he is not al-Nahdī, so he is unknown in any case.
