"the Forgiving," and this is supported by considering the meaning, for saying "Lord, forgive me" aligns more with "the Forgiving" than with "the Merciful." This is what appears to me from the investigation of this phrase, and I have not come across anyone who has written about it. If I am correct, it is from Allāh, and to Him is all praise, and He is my protector. If it is otherwise, I seek His forgiveness for my sin, my error, and my deliberate actions, and all of that is with me. Then regarding the ḥadīth, al-Tirmidhī said after it: "A good, authentic, and rare ḥadīth." Al-Ḥākim attributed it (1/511) to Muslim, but he was mistaken.
"Rejoice, for Allāh says: It is My fire which I impose upon My believing servant in the world so that it may be his share of the fire in the Hereafter." It was narrated by Aḥmad (2/440) and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (2/229/2). They said: Abū Usāmah narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUbayd Allāh from Abū Ṣāliḥ al-Ashʿarī from Abū Hurayrah from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). "that he visited a sick person with Abū Hurayrah who was suffering from a fever, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him..." and he mentioned it. From the route of Ibn Abī Shaybah, it was also narrated by Ibn Mājah (3470) and al-Ḥākim (1/345), as well as Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "al-Maraḍ wa-al-Kaffārāt" (159/1-2) from another route from Abū Usāmah with it. And he said: "Authentic isnād." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And it is as they said, and its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for this al-Ashʿarī, about whom Abū Ḥātim said: There is no harm in him. A group of trustworthy narrators reported from him, and for this reason, al-Dhahabī confidently stated in "al-Mīzān" that he is trustworthy
