he said: Which jihad is best? He said: The one whose horse is wounded and whose blood is shed. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Then there are two deeds that are the best of deeds except for one who performs a similar deed, a valid ḥajj or ʿumrah. I said: The men of its isnād are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, so it is authentic if Abū Qilābah—whose name is ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zayd—heard it from ʿAmr, for he is a mudallis. In any case, this segment is established through both routes, and Allāh knows best. Thirdly: The segment "Which migration is best?" It has come in the aforementioned route, so it is also good. Fourthly: The segment "Which prayer is best?" This is authentic because it has supporting evidence, including from Muslim and others from the ḥadīth of Jābir: "The best prayer is the one with prolonged standing." Fifthly: The segment "Patience and generosity." It has supporting evidence from the ḥadīth of Jābir, and there are two routes for it. The first: From al-Ḥasan from him that he said: "It was said, O Messenger of Allāh, which faith is best? He said: Patience and generosity." It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (vol. 184/2), and its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, except that al-Ḥasan, who is al-Baṣrī, is a mudallis and did not explicitly state hearing. The second: From Yūsuf ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from his father from Jābir. It was recorded by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "al-Ṣabr" (vol. 43/2) and Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" through the route of Abū Yaʿlá. I said: And this Yūsuf is weak, but the ḥadīth is strong with its three routes combined. Sixthly: The segment "Free and slave." It was recorded by Muslim in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (vol. 2/208-209) through another route from ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah.
