"If your good deed pleases you and your bad deed displeases you, then you are a believer." It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/251, 252, 256), Ibn Ḥibbān (103), and al-Ḥākim (1/14) through the route of Hishām al-Dustuwāʾī from Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr from Zayd ibn Salām from his grandfather Mamṭūr from Abū Umāmah who said: "A man said: O Messenger of Allāh, what is faith? He said: and he mentioned it." He said: O Messenger of Allāh, what is sin? He said: If something troubles your heart, then leave it." Al-Ḥākim said, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him: "It is authentic and connected according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs." And I say: It is only according to the criteria of Muslim alone, for Zayd ibn Salām and his grandfather Mamṭūr were not included by al-Bukhārī in his "Ṣaḥīḥ," but only in "al-Adab al-Mufrad."
"The best hours are the last part of the night." It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/385) from Muḥammad ibn Dhakwān from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab from ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah who said: "I came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Messenger of Allāh, who has followed you in this matter? He said: A free man and a slave. I said: What is Islam? He said: Good speech and feeding food. I said: What is faith? He said: Patience and generosity. He said: I said: Which Islam is best? He said: The one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe. He said: I said: Which faith is best? He said: Good character. He said: I said: Which prayer is best? He said: Long standing. He said: I said: Which migration is best? He said: To abandon what your Lord dislikes."
