and he was also followed by al-Darāwardī from him with it; it was recorded by Muslim. Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq also followed: Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to me from ʿĪsá ibn Ṭalḥah from Abū Salamah with it. Its wording: "Indeed, a man may speak a word he sees no harm in, yet it causes him to fall seventy autumns into the Fire." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/236) and al-Tirmidhī (2/51), who said: "A ḥadīth ḥasan gharīb from this perspective." It has supporting evidence from another route recorded by Aḥmad (2/355/533) from the route of Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim, who said: I heard al-Ḥasan narrate from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: "Indeed, a man may speak a word and not see that it reaches where it reaches, yet it causes him to fall into the Fire for seventy autumns." This isnād's narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except that al-Ḥasan is a mudallis and it has been said that he did not hear from Abū Hurayrah. Aḥmad also recorded it (2/402) from the route of al-Zubayr ibn Saʿīd, who said: and Ṣafwān ibn Sulaym also narrated from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār from Abū Hurayrah from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who said: and he mentioned it similarly except that he said: "...a word that makes his companions laugh, yet it causes him to fall further than the Pleiades." And this al-Zubayr is lenient in ḥadīth as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." There is another route for the ḥadīth from Abū Hurayrah with an addition at its beginning, except that its isnād is weak. The correct view regarding it is that it is mawqūf, as I have verified in the other book (1299).
