and this ḥadīth supports that the pledge was made between him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and the women by extending hands, as mentioned earlier by the ḥāfiẓ, not by shaking hands, as if it had occurred, the narrator would have mentioned it, as is apparent. Thus, there is no contradiction between it and the ḥadīth of the chapter and the forthcoming ḥadīth.

- "He did not shake hands with women during the pledge." It was recorded by Imām Aḥmad (2/213) who narrated to us from ʿAtāb ibn Ziyād, who informed us from ʿAbd Allāh, who informed us from Usāmah ibn Zayd, who narrated to me from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was... I said: This isnād is good according to what is established among scholars regarding the acceptance of the ḥadīth of ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb from his father from his grandfather, like Aḥmad, al-Ḥumaydī, al-Bukhārī, al-Tirmidhī, and others, and those below them are trustworthy. And ʿAbd Allāh is Ibn al-Mubārak.

- "Allāh said: 'The son of Adam offends Me by saying: "Oh, the misfortune of time" (in another narration: "he curses time"). Let none of you say: "Oh, the misfortune of time," for indeed I am time: I alternate its night and day, and when I wish, I seize them.'" It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (3/330, 4/478) and Muslim (7/45) with this wording, and by Abū Dāwūd (5274) and Aḥmad (2/138, 272, 275) through various routes from al-Zuhrī, from Ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it. Al-Ḥākim also recorded it (2/453) from this chain and wording and said: "Authentic according to their criteria, but they did not record it in this manner." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, but they erred in their correction on Muslim, as he recorded it as you see, and al-Mundhirī was deceived by it and included it in "al-Targhīb" with this wording, saying (3/290): "Narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Ḥākim, who said: Authentic according to Muslim's criteria."
