those among them who hold the title "doctor"! They write about matters outside their expertise and of which they have no knowledge. I know one of these individuals who published a book for the public, mostly about ḥadīth and biography, claiming that he relied on authentic ḥadīth and reports from the books of sunnah and biography! Yet, he included in it narrations and ḥadīth that were reported solely by weak, abandoned, and accused narrators, such as al-Wāqidī and others. He even included the ḥadīth: "We judge by the outward, and Allāh takes care of the inward," and asserted its attribution to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), although it has no authentic basis from him in this wording, as noted by ḥadīth scholars like al-Sakhāwī and others. So beware, readers, of such individuals. And Allāh knows best

- "When the night falls, keep your children inside, for the devils spread out at that time. When an hour of the evening has passed, let them go." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (2/322, 4/36-37), Muslim (6/106), and Abū Dāwūd (3733) through the route of ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Aḥmad (3/388) narrated it similarly and added: "For the jinn spread out and snatch," and its chain is authentic. (When the night falls) meaning: when its darkness approaches. Al-Ṭībī said: "When the night falls" refers to a portion of it, and here it means the first portion when the darkness of the evening extends.
