the first command given to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was the command to read, and this was only to indicate that this religion is based on knowledge. The sharīʿah has come with an explanation of the virtue of knowledge and the characteristics of its bearers, so that matters do not become confused and reversed, leading to knowledge being taken from those unworthy of it.
أول أمر أُمر به النبي ﷺ هو الأمر بالقراءة، وما ذاك إلا لبيان أن هذا الدين مبني على العلم. وقد جاءت الشريعة ببيان فضل العلم وبيان صفات حملته، حتى لا يختلط الأمر وينعكس، فيؤخذ العلم عن غير أهله.
