"The recompense of an evil is an evil like it" (278), or (disagreement) is a verbal noun of "khālafa," meaning: and this is associated with opposing such and such. And they may say: (unlike if it were such), and it is mentioned in "al-Mughnī" (279) in the discussion of (if) that it can be a particle of causation, and it most often (280) occurs after (wished) or (wishes), as in: "One of them wishes he could be given a long life" (281). And it may occur without them, as in the saying of Qutaylah (282): "What harm would it have done you if you had been gracious, for a young man may be gracious even when he is angry and enraged." Al-Damāminī (283) said in his explanation: (I said: And regarding (if) being causative, it explains what frequently occurs in the writings of scholars from their saying: (unlike if it were such), as Ibn al-Ḥājib says in his jurisprudential book (284): [unlike if it occurred dead, and the author of "al-Talkhīṣ" (285)] says: (unlike if it were delayed), so the estimation would be: unlike its occurrence dead (286) and unlike its delay. And (what) is an additional element between the possessed and the possessor, as in: (I came to you more than once). This is the closest explanation for such a construction, and Allāh knows best). End (287).
(جزاءُ سيِّئةٍ بمِثْلِها) (٢٧٨) ، أو (الخلاف) اسم مصدر خالف، أي: وهذا ملتبسٌ بمخالفة كذا. وقد يقولون: (بخلاف ما لو كان كذا) ، وقد ذكر في المغني (٢٧٩) في بحث (لو) أنّها تكون حرفاً مصدرياً، وأكثر (٢٨٠) وقوعها بعد (ودَّ) أو (يودّ) ، نحو: " يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهم لو يُعَمّرُ " (٢٨١) . وقد تقع بدونهما، ومنه قولُ قُتَيْلَةَ (٢٨٢) : ما كانَ ضرَّكَ لو مَنَنْتَ ورُبَّما مَنَّ الفَتَى وهو المَغيظُ المُحْنَقُ قال الدَّمامينيّ (٢٨٣) في شرحه: (قلتُ: وعلى كون (لو) مصدرية يتخرّج ما يقعُ في تصانيف العلماء كثيراً من قولهم: (بخلاف ما لو كان كذا) ، كقول ابن الحاجب في كتابه الفقهي (٢٨٤) : [بخلاف ما لو وقع ميتاً، وقول صاحب التلخيص (٢٨٥) ] : (بخلاف ما لو أُخِّرَ) ، فيكون التقدير: بخلاف وقوعه ميتاً (٢٨٦) وبخلاف تأخيره. و (ما) زائدة بين المضاف والمضاف إليه، نحو: (جئتك غير ما مرَّة) . هذا أقرب ما يخرّج مثل هذا التركيب عليه، والله أعلمُ) . انتهى (٢٨٧) .
