(Abū Dāwūd and al-Sahmī) (then he would recite al-Fātiḥah and pause at each verse: "In the name of Allāh, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate" [then he pauses and says:] "All praise is due to Allāh, Lord of all the worlds" [then he pauses and says:] "The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate" [then he pauses and says:] "Master of the Day of Judgment" and so on until the end of the sūrah. Likewise, his entire recitation was such that he would pause at the end of each verse and not connect it to what follows. (Tamām al-Rāʾizī and Ibn Abī Dāwūd in (al-Maṣāḥif). At times, he would recite it: "King of the Day of Judgment."
(أبو داود والسهمي) (ثم يقرأ الفاتحة ويقطعها آية آية: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم [ثم يقف ثم يقول:] الحمد لله رب العالمين [ثم يقف ثم يقول:] الرحمن الرحيم [ثم يقف ثم يقول:] مالك يوم الدين وهكذا إلى آخر السورة وكذلك كانت قراءته كلها يقف على رؤوس الآي ولا يصلها بما بعدها(تمام الرائزي وابن أبي داود في (المصاحف). وكان تارة يقرؤها: ملك يوم الدين.
