(Abū Dāwūd and authenticated by al-Ḥākim, with al-Dhahabī concurring) then he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would begin the recitation with many varied supplications, praising Allāh, glorifying Him, and extolling Him. He instructed the one who performed his prayer poorly, saying to him: "No one's prayer is complete until he pronounces the takbīr, praises Allāh the Majestic and Mighty, extols Him, and recites whatever is easy for him from the Quran..." He would sometimes recite this and sometimes that, and he would say: 1 - (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) "O Allāh, distance me from my sins as You have distanced the East from the West. O Allāh, purify me from my sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. O Allāh, wash away my sins with water, snow, and hail," and he would say it in the obligatory prayer
(أبو داود وصححه الحاكم ووافقه الذهبي) ثم كان ﷺ يستفتح القراءة بأدعية كثيرة متنوعة يحمد الله تعالى فيها ويمجده ويثني عليه وقد أمر بذلك (المسيء صلاته) فقال له: (لا تتم صلاة لأحد من الناس حتى يكبر ويحمد الله جل وعز ويثني عليه ويقرأ بما تيسر من القرآن. . .). وكان يقرأ تارة بهذا وتارة بهذا فكان يقول:١ - (البخاري ومسلم) (اللهم باعد بيني وبين خطاياي كما باعدت بين المشرق والمغرب اللهم نقني من خطاياي كما ينقى الثوب الأبيض من الدنس اللهم اغسلني من خطاياي بالماء والثلج والبرد) وكان يقوله في الفرض.
