(Aḥmad, al-Dāraquṭnī, and al-Ṭabarānī with a sound chain) and (he performed an obligatory prayer and clasped his hand. When he finished praying, they said: O Messenger of Allāh, has something new occurred in the prayer? He said: (No, except that Satan wanted to pass in front of me, so I strangled him until I felt the coldness of his tongue on my hand. By Allāh, if it were not for what my brother Sulaymān had preceded me in, I would have tied him to one of the pillars of the mosque so that the children of Medina could circle around him [so whoever can prevent anyone from passing between him and the qiblah, let him do so]). And he used to say: (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) (If one of you prays towards something that screens him from the people and someone wants to pass in front of him, let him push him in the chest [and repel him as much as he can] (in another narration: let him prevent him twice), and if he refuses, let him fight him, for he is only a devil) (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). And he used to say: (If the one passing in front of the person praying knew what [sin] is upon him, it would be better for him to stand for forty than to pass in front of him)
