(al-Bukhārī and Aḥmad) and (the Prophet ﷺ would stand close to the barrier, so there was a distance of three cubits between him and the wall) (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) and (between his place of prostration and the wall was the passage of a sheep) (Ibn Khuzaymah). He would say: "Do not pray except towards a barrier and do not let anyone pass in front of you; if they refuse, then fight them, for with them is a companion" (Abū Dāwūd and al-Bazzār, authenticated by al-Ḥākim and agreed upon by al-Dhahabī). He would say: "If one of you prays towards a barrier, let him come close to it so that Satan does not interrupt his prayer" and "sometimes he would deliberately pray near the pillar in his mosque."
