about the amount of thirty or forty verses remained, he would stand and recite them while standing, then bow and prostrate, and he would do the same in the second unit of prayer (Muslim and Aḥmad). He only performed the optional prayer sitting in the latter part of his life when he became old, and that was a year before his death (al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Khuzaymah, and al-Ḥākim, who authenticated it, and al-Dhahabī agreed). and he would sit cross-legged during the prayer in sandals and the command regarding it
قدر ما يكون ثلاثين أو أربعين آية قام فقرأها وهو قائم ثم ركع وسجد ثم يصنع في الركعة الثانية مثل ذلك)(مسلم وأحمد). وإنما (صلى السبحة قاعدا في آخر حياته لما أسن وذلك قبل وفاته بعام)(النسائي وابن خزيمة والحاكم وصححه ووافقه الذهبي). و (كان يجلس متربعا) الصلاة في النعال والأمر بها.
