that night a Quranic verse was revealed, and he was commanded to face the Kaʿbah, [so] face it. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would stand during obligatory and voluntary prayers, in compliance with the command of Allāh: "And stand before Allāh devoutly obedient" (Sūrat al-Baqarah, 2:238). As for when traveling, he would pray voluntary prayers on his mount, and it was legislated for his ummah to pray during severe fear on foot or mounted, as mentioned earlier, and that is the saying of Allāh: "Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer and stand before Allāh devoutly obedient."
