guided and rightly guided. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) taught Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) to say: (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) "O Allāh, indeed I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You. So forgive me with a forgiveness from You, and have mercy on me. Indeed, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful." (Aḥmad, al-Ṭayālisī, and al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad," and I have authenticated it in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah") and he instructed ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) to say: "O Allāh, I ask You for all that is good, [immediate and delayed], what I know of it and what I do not know, and I seek refuge in You from all that is evil, [immediate and delayed], what I know of it and what I do not know. And I ask You (in another narration: O Allāh, I ask You) for Paradise and for what brings one closer to it, of words or deeds, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from what brings one closer to it, of words or deeds. And I ask You (in another narration: O Allāh, I ask You) for the best of what Your servant and messenger [Muḥammad asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what Your servant and messenger Muḥammad (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sought refuge from. And I ask You] that whatever You have decreed for me, its outcome be [for me] guidance." (Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah, and Ibn Khuzaymah with an authentic chain) and (he said to a man: "What do you say in prayer?" He said: "I testify, then I ask Allāh for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Fire. By Allāh, I do not know how to hum like you or Muʿādh." So he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said:
