then when you sit in the middle of the prayer, be calm and spread your left thigh, then recite the tashahhud. Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) said: (al-Ṭayālisī, Aḥmad, and Ibn Abī Shaybah) (My close friend ﷺ forbade me from sitting like a dog) (Muslim and Abū ʿAwānah). In another ḥadīth: (He used to forbid sitting like the devil) (Muslim and Abū ʿAwānah). and (when he sat in the tashahhud, he placed his right hand on his right thigh (in another narration: his knee) and placed his left hand on his left thigh (in another narration: his knee [spreading it on it]) (Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī with a sound isnād). and (he ﷺ would place the edge of his right elbow on his right thigh) (al-Bayhaqī and al-Ḥākim, who authenticated it, and al-Dhahabī agreed). and (he forbade a man who was sitting leaning on his left hand in prayer, saying: (This is the prayer of the Jews) in one version:
