(Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Ṭabarānī) and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) established the practice of prompting the imam if he becomes confused in his recitation, as he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) once prayed and became confused in his recitation. When he finished, he said to Ubayy: "Did you pray with us?" He replied: "Yes." He said: "Then what prevented you [from prompting me]?"
