(Abū Dāwūd and Aḥmad with a sound isnād) and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), as Allāh the Exalted commanded him, would recite the Qurʾān with measured recitation, neither hastily nor slowly, but with a recitation (explained letter by letter) (Muslim and Mālik). so (he would recite a sūrah until it would be longer than one longer than it) (Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, and he authenticated it). And he would say: (It is said to the companion of the Qurʾān: Recite and ascend and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your position is at the last verse you recite) (al-Bukhārī and Abū Dāwūd). and (he would elongate his recitation (at the letters of elongation), elongating "Bismillāh" and elongating "al-Raḥmān" and elongating "al-Raḥīm"). and similar (al-Bukhārī) and its likes, and he would pause at the ends of the verses as previously explained (al-Bukhārī and Muslim). and (sometimes he would modulate his voice as he did on the day of the conquest of Mecca while on his camel reciting Sūrat al-Fatḥ (48:29) [with a soft recitation], as narrated by ʿAbd Allāh
(أبو داود وأحمد بسند صحيح) وكان ﷺ كما أمره الله تعالى - يرتل القرآن ترتيلا لا هذا ولا عجلة بل قراءة (مفسرة حرفا حرفا) (مسلم ومالك). حتى (كان يرتل السورة حتى تكون أطول من أطول منها) (أبو داود والترمذي وصححه). وكان يقول: (يقال لصاحب القرآن: اقرأ وارتق ورتل كما كنت ترتل في الدنيا فإن منزلك عند آخر آية تقرؤها) (البخاري وأبو داود). و (كان يمد قراءته (عند حروف المد) فيمد بسم الله ويمد الرحمن ويمد الرحيم). ونضيد (البخاري) وأمثالها وكان يقف على رؤوس الآي كما سبق بيانه (البخاري ومسلم). و (كان - أحيانا - يرجع صوته كما فعل يوم فتح مكة وهو على ناقته يقرأ سورة الفتح (: ٤٨: ٢٩) [قراءة لينة] وقد حكى عبد الله.
