and (a man said to him: O Messenger of Allāh, I have a neighbor who stands in prayer at night and only recites "Say, He is Allāh, [who is] One" (Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ, 112:4) [repeating it] [not adding to it]—as if belittling it—so the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: (Aḥmad and al-Bukhārī) (By the One in whose hand is my soul, it is equivalent to one-third of the Quran). 7 - The Witr prayer: (al-Nasāʾī and al-Ḥākim, who authenticated it) (He (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to recite in the first rakʿah "Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High" (Sūrah al-Aʿlá, 87:19), in the second "Say, O disbelievers" (Sūrah al-Kāfirūn, 109:6), and in the third "Say, He is Allāh, [who is] One" (Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ, 112:4) (al-Tirmidhī and Abū al-ʿAbbās, authenticated by al-Ḥākim and agreed upon by al-Dhahabī). And he would sometimes add: "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak" (Sūrah al-Falaq, 113:5) and "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind" (Sūrah al-Nās, 114:6) (al-Nasāʾī and Aḥmad with a sound chain). And once: (he recited in the Witr rakʿah one hundred verses from Sūrah al-Nisāʾ, 4:176) (Aḥmad, Ibn Naṣr, and Ibn Ḥibbān with a good and sound chain). As for the two rakʿahs after Witr, he would recite in them "When the earth is shaken" (Sūrah al-Zalzalah)
