al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Jamīʿ al-Ghasānī in Sidon, and he confirmed it." he said, "I heard Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl ibn Yaḥyá ibn al-Qāsim ibn ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Nawfal ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib al-Hāshimī in Mecca saying, 'I heard Abū Dāwūd Sulaymān ibn al-Ashʿath ibn Isḥāq ibn Bashīr ibn Shaddād al-Sijistānī.'" and he was asked about his letter which he wrote to the people of Mecca and others in response to them, so he dictated to us. "Peace be upon you. I praise to you Allāh, there is no deity except Him, and I ask Him to send blessings upon Muḥammad, His servant and messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) whenever he is mentioned. As for what follows, may Allāh grant us and you well-being with no adversity accompanying it and no punishment after it. For you asked me to mention to you the ḥadīths in the book of al-Sunan, whether they are the most authentic that I know in the chapter."
