and the devils took over his heart, so he became one of the misguided, the brothers of the devils, and within him was such evil and immorality that only Allāh knows. This is a necessary matter with no alternative. For if the heart is not inclined towards Allāh, turning away from anything else, it becomes idolatrous. Allāh, the Exalted, said (Sūrah al-Rūm, 30-32): "So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth, the natural disposition of Allāh upon which He has created mankind. There is no altering the creation of Allāh. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know. * [Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allāh * of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has." And Allāh, glorified be He, made Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm leaders for these sincere monotheists, the people of love for Allāh, worshiping Him and dedicating their religion to Him, just as He made Pharaoh and the family of Pharaoh leaders of the idolaters who follow their desires. Allāh said about Ibrāhīm (Sūrah al-Anbiyāʾ, 72-73): "And We granted him Isḥāq and Yaʿqūb in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. * And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakāh; and they were worshippers of Us." And He said about Pharaoh and his people (Sūrah al-Qaṣaṣ, 41-42): "And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped. * And We caused a curse to follow them in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised."
