and when a person ascends a height or rides an animal and the like, and with it, the fire is extinguished even if it is great, and at the call to prayer, the devil flees. He, the Exalted, said (Sūrah Ghāfir, 60): "And your Lord says, 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you. Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.'" And everyone who is arrogant about the worship of Allāh will inevitably worship something else, for the human being is sensitive and moves by will. It is established in "al-Ṣaḥīḥ" from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: "The truest names are Ḥārith and Hammām." So, Ḥārith is the one who earns and acts, and Hammām is active from concern, and concern is the beginning of will. Thus, a human always has a will, and every will must have an object of desire that it ends with. Therefore, every servant must have a beloved object of desire that is the ultimate end of his love and will. So whoever does not have Allāh as his deity and the ultimate end of his love and will, but rather is arrogant about that, must have a beloved object of desire that enslaves him other than Allāh. He becomes a servant to that beloved object of desire, whether it is wealth, status, images, or what he takes as a deity besides Allāh, such as the sun, the moon, the stars, and idols
