at ease with that and content, rather, he can find a way to escape. But if the heart, which is the ruler of the body, is enslaved, captivated by something other than Allāh, then this is pure humiliation and captivity, and the heart's servitude is a disgraceful enslavement. The servitude and captivity of the heart are what result in reward and punishment, for if a Muslim is captured by a disbeliever or unjustly enslaved by a sinner, it does not harm him as long as he fulfills the obligations he is able to. And whoever is rightfully enslaved, if "he fulfills the rights of Allāh and the rights of his masters, he will have a double reward." Even if he is forced to speak disbelief and he speaks it while his heart is assured in faith, it does not harm him. But whoever's heart is enslaved and becomes a servant to something other than Allāh, this harms him, even if outwardly he is a king among people. Thus, freedom is the freedom of the heart, and servitude is the servitude of the heart, just as wealth is the wealth of the soul. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Wealth is not from an abundance of possessions, but wealth is the wealth of the soul." By Allāh, if his heart is captivated by a permissible image, then as for one whose heart is captivated by a forbidden image, whether a woman or a boy, this is the torment that no other torment can match
