and from the supplication of Mūsá: "O Allāh, to You belongs all praise, and to You is the complaint, and You are the One whose help is sought, and in You is the refuge, and upon You is reliance, and there is no power nor strength except through You." And in the supplication that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) made when the people of al-Ṭāʾif did what they did to him: "O Allāh, to You I complain of my weakness, lack of resources, and my insignificance before people. O Most Merciful of the merciful, You are the Lord of the oppressed, and You are my Lord. To whom do You entrust me? To a distant one who frowns at me, or to an enemy whom You have given control over my affair? If You are not angry with me, I do not mind, except that Your protection is more expansive for me. I seek refuge in the light of Your Face, by which the darknesses are illuminated and the affairs of this world and the Hereafter are set right, from Your anger descending upon me or Your wrath befalling me. To You is the appeal until You are pleased, and there is no power nor strength except through Allāh." And in some narrations: "and there is no power nor strength except through You." And whenever the servant's hope in the bounty of Allāh, His mercy, and his expectation for the fulfillment of his need and the removal of his distress strengthens, his servitude to Him strengthens and his freedom from anything besides Him. Just as his hope in the creation necessitates his servitude to it, his despair from it necessitates the richness of his heart
