supplication among them and the like of that from the stations of the common people, not the elite, based on the notion that whoever witnesses the decree knows that what is decreed will occur, so there is no need for that, and this is clear misguidance. For Allāh has decreed things with their causes, just as He has decreed happiness and misery with their causes, as the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Indeed, Allāh created for Paradise its people while they were in the loins of their fathers, and they act according to the deeds of the people of Paradise. And He created for the Fire its people while they were in the loins of their fathers, and they act according to the deeds of the people of the Fire." And as the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said when he informed them that Allāh had written the decrees, they said: "O Messenger of Allāh, should we not abandon action and rely on the Book?" He said: "No, act, for everyone is facilitated for what he was created. As for those who are among the people of happiness, they will be facilitated to the deeds of the people of happiness, and as for those who are among the people of misery, they will be facilitated to the deeds of the people of misery." So everything that Allāh has commanded His servants as causes is worship, and reliance is coupled with worship, as in His saying, the Exalted (Sūrah Hūd, 123): "So worship Him and rely upon Him," and in His saying (Sūrah al-Raʿd, 30): "Say, 'He is my Lord; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return,'" and the saying of Shuʿayb (peace be upon him) (Sūrah Hūd, 88): "Upon Him I rely, and to Him I turn."
الدُّعَاء مِنْهُم وَنَحْو ذَلِك من مقامات الْعَامَّة دون الْخَاصَّة بِنَاء على أَن من شهد الْقدر علم أَن مَا قدر سَيكون فَلَا حَاجَة إِلَى ذَلِك وَهَذَا ضلال مُبين. فَإِن الله قدر الْأَشْيَاء بأسبابها كَمَا قدر السَّعَادَة والشقاوة بأسبابهما كَمَا قَالَ النَّبِي ﷺ: " إِن الله خلق للجنة أَهلا خلقهَا لَهُم وهم فِي أصلاب آبَائِهِم وبعمل أهل الْجنَّة يعْملُونَ وَخلق للنار أَهلا خلقهَا لَهُم وهم فِي أصلاب آبَائِهِم وبعمل أهل النَّار يعْملُونَ ". وكما قَالَ النَّبِي ﷺ لما أخْبرهُم بِأَن الله كتب الْمَقَادِير فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُول الله أَفلا نَدع الْعَمَل ونتكل على الْكتاب؟ فَقَالَ: " لَا اعْمَلُوا فَكل ميسر لما خلق لَهُ أما من كَانَ من أهل السَّعَادَة فسييسر لعمل أهل السَّعَادَة وَأما من كَانَ من أهل الشقاوة فسييسر لعمل أهل الشقاوة ". فَكل مَا أَمر الله بِهِ عباده من الْأَسْبَاب فَهُوَ عبَادَة والتوكل مقرون بِالْعبَادَة كَمَا فِي قَوْله تَعَالَى [١٢٣ هود] : ﴿فاعبده وتوكل عَلَيْهِ﴾ وَفِي قَوْله [٣٠ الرَّعْد] : ﴿قل هُوَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَه إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ توكلت وَإِلَيْهِ متاب﴾ وَقَول شُعَيْب ﵇ [٨٨ هود] : ﴿عَلَيْهِ توكلت وَإِلَيْهِ أنيب﴾.
