The essence of religion is two principles:
that we worship none but Allāh and that we worship Him only with what He has prescribed, not with innovations. As He, the Exalted, said (Sūrah al-Kahf, 110): "So whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous work and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord." This is the realization of the two testimonies: the testimony that there is no deity but Allāh and the testimony that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh. In the first: that we worship none but Him. In the second: that Muḥammad is His Messenger who conveys from Him, so we must believe his report and obey his command. He has clarified for us what we should worship Allāh with and has forbidden us from innovations, informing us that they are misguidance. He, the Exalted, said (Sūrah al-Baqarah, 112): "Yes, whoever submits his face to Allāh while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve." Just as we are commanded to fear none but Allāh, to rely only on Allāh, to desire only from Allāh, and to seek help only from Allāh, and that our worship should be for Allāh alone. Likewise, we are commanded to follow the Messenger, obey him, and emulate him; what is lawful is what he has made lawful, and what is unlawful is what he has prohibited
