and in "Sunan Ibn Mājah" and others, it is narrated from him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: "The best remembrance is 'There is no deity except Allāh,' and the best supplication is 'All praise is due to Allāh.'" and there are many such ḥadīths regarding the various types of remembrance and supplication. similarly, what is in the Quran from His saying, the Exalted [al-Anʿām 6:121]: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allāh has not been mentioned," and His saying [al-Māʾidah 5:4]: "So eat of that which they catch for you and mention the name of Allāh upon it," is simply the saying: "In the name of Allāh." This is a complete sentence, either nominal according to the most apparent opinion of the grammarians, or verbal with the implied meaning: "My slaughtering is in the name of Allāh" or "I slaughter in the name of Allāh." likewise, the saying of the reciter: "In the name of Allāh, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate," implies "My recitation is in the name of Allāh" or "I recite in the name of Allāh." and among the people, there are those who imply in such cases: "My beginning is in the name of Allāh" or "I began in the name of Allāh," and the first is better; because the entire action is done in the name of Allāh, not merely its beginning, as the implied is made explicit in His saying [al-ʿAlaq 96:1]:
وَفِي " سنَن ابْن مَاجَه " وَغَيره عَنهُ ﷺ أَنه قَالَ: " أفضل الذّكر لَا إِلَه إِلَّا الله وَأفضل الدُّعَاء الْحَمد لله ". وَمثل هَذِه الْأَحَادِيث كَثِيرَة فِي أَنْوَاع مَا يُقَال من الذّكر وَالدُّعَاء. وَكَذَلِكَ مَا فِي الْقُرْآن من قَوْله تَعَالَى [١٢١ الْأَنْعَام] : ﴿وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لم يذكر اسْم الله عَلَيْهِ﴾ وَقَوله [٤ الْمَائِدَة] : ﴿فَكُلُوا مِمَّا أمسكن عَلَيْكُم واذْكُرُوا اسْم الله عَلَيْهِ﴾ إِنَّمَا هُوَ قَول: بِسم الله، وَهَذِه جملَة تَامَّة، إِمَّا اسمية على أظهر قولي النُّحَاة، أَو فعلية وَالتَّقْدِير: ذبحي بِسم الله أَو أذبح بِسم الله. وَكَذَلِكَ قَول الْقَارئ: بِسم الله الرَّحْمَن الرَّحِيم، فتقديره قراءتي بِسم الله أَو اقْرَأ باسم الله. وَمن النَّاس من يضمر فِي مثل هَذَا: ابتدائي بِسم الله أَو ابتدأت بِسم الله، وَالْأول أحسن؛ لِأَن الْفِعْل كُله مفعول باسم الله لَيْسَ مُجَرّد ابْتِدَائه، كَمَا أظهر الْمُضمر فِي قَوْله [١ العلق] :
