And the saying of Allāh, the Exalted: "Why were there not among the generations before you those possessing understanding, prohibiting corruption on earth, except a few of those We saved from among them?" (Sūrah Hūd, 11:116). And from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), it is reported as a marfūʿ ḥadīth: "Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange as it began, so glad tidings to the strangers." Narrated by Muslim. And it is narrated by Aḥmad from the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd, and in it: "Who are the strangers? He said: Those who withdraw from the tribes." And in another narration: "The strangers are those who rectify when people become corrupt." And al-Tirmidhī narrates from the ḥadīth of Kathīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh from his father from his grandfather: "Glad tidings to the strangers who rectify what the people have corrupted of my sunnah." And from Abū Umayyah who said: "I asked Abū Thaʿlabah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) and said, 'O Abū Thaʿlabah, what do you say about this verse: 'O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves.
