that the Messenger of Allāh was asked about which slaves are best [to free]? He said: "The most expensive in price and the most valued by their owners." He attributed it to a ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah, and it is rare. There is a supporting narration for the ḥadīth of the chapter from Abū Umāmah in his lengthy ḥadīth, and its isnād is weak; as clarified in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" under number (609). There is another supporting narration from Abū Hurayrah similar to the ḥadīth of Abū Dharr. It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/388) with a chain whose narrators are all trustworthy, from the narrators of the two Shaykhs; except for Khalīfah ibn Ghālib al-Laythī, who is truthful; as stated by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb," so the isnād is good. *

- (The best fasting is the fasting of my brother Dāwūd; he would fast one day and break his fast the next, and he would not flee when he met [the enemy]). It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (770), and Aḥmad (2/164 and 190) through the route of Wakīʿ from Misʿar and Sufyān from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit from Abū al-ʿAbbās from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. It was also recorded by al-Bukhārī (3419), and Muslim (3/165) through two other routes from Misʿar alone with similar wording; except that Muslim did not provide its wording. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ"!
