(Benefit): Imām al-Nawawī said in "Sharḥ Muslim" (17/20) - commenting on his statement: "or it is reduced" -: "This is how it appears in most copies of 'Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim': 'or it is reduced' with (or), and in some of them: 'and it is reduced' - with the conjunction 'and'. Al-Ḥumaydī said in 'Al-Jamʿ bayn al-Ṣaḥīḥayn': This is how it is in the book of Muslim: 'or it is reduced' with (or), and al-Barqānī said: And it was narrated by Shuʿbah, Abū ʿAwānah, and Yaḥyá al-Qaṭṭān from [Mūsá] (1) from whom Muslim narrated it, and they said: 'and it is reduced' - with the conjunction 'and'." I said: The narrations have appeared in the sources of extraction - mentioned earlier - in both forms, and the difference is easy; because (or) can come with the meaning of (and).
