my journey, my means have been cut off, and I have no provision today except through Allāh and then through you. I ask you—by the One who restored your sight to you—for a sheep with which I can sustain myself on my journey. He said: I was once blind, and Allāh restored my sight to me, so take what you wish and leave what you wish, for by Allāh! I will not burden you today with anything you take for Allāh's sake! He said: Keep your wealth; you have been tested, and [Allāh] is pleased with you and displeased with your two companions. It was recorded by Muslim (8/213-214), Ibn Ḥibbān (314), and al-Bayhaqī (7/219), all from the route of Shaybān ibn Farrūkh: Hammām narrated to us: Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAmrah narrated to me that Abū Hurayrah narrated to him that he heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: ... and he mentioned it. ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim followed him from Hammām with it. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī as a muʿallaq [suspended] narration; however, he only mentioned the first part of it. He connected it with number (3464) and said: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq narrated to us: ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us with it; however, he did not provide its wording, but rather conveyed it as a transformation, and then said after it: And Muḥammad narrated to me: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ narrated to us: Hammām informed us ... and he conveyed it in full; however, it appeared in its text: "It appeared to Allāh ﷿ to test them" instead of the statement in the first narration: "Allāh intended to test them." There is no doubt in my mind that this is preferable to the other for two reasons: first: the agreement of two trustworthy narrators on it—namely Shaybān and ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim
