that he did not declare him weak either. Therefore, this reliability should not be relied upon; as it contradicts other statements of the imam and the statements of other imams. Furthermore, Zabān—who is Ibn Fāʾid—was not declared reliable by anyone, and there is no disagreement about his weakness, so their silence about him is another error. There is an error more significant than what has been mentioned, which is their oversight of a strong corroboration for (Zabān) found in al-Ṭabarānī (no. 440) through two chains from Ibn Wahb: Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb narrated to me from Khayr ibn Naʿīm from Sahl ibn Muʿādh with it. I said: This is a sound isnād, its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, up to Sahl ibn Muʿādh. And Sahl, the ḥāfiẓ said about him in "al-Taqrīb": "There is no harm in him except in the narrations of Zabān from him." Al-Mundhirī said at the end of "al-Targhīb" (4/284): "He was considered weak, and al-Tirmidhī deemed him good, and also authenticated for him, and Ibn Khuzaymah and al-Ḥākim and others used him as evidence, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in (al-Thiqāt)." I said: Thus, his ḥadīth is at least ḥasan if the narrator from him is trustworthy, and Ibn Ḥibbān also recorded a ḥadīth for him regarding the prohibition of using animals as seats, no. (5590), which is also mentioned earlier as no. (21). The ḥadīth is further strengthened by a corroborating report from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: It was said to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): What equals jihād in the way of Allāh? He said: "You cannot do it."
أنه لم يضعفه أيضاً. وعليه؛ فلا يعتمد على هذا التوثيق؛ لمخالفته لأقوال الإمام الأخرى، وأقوال الأئمة الاًخرين. ثم إن زبان- وهو ابن فائد- لم يوثقه أحد، ولا خلاف في ضعفه، فسكوتهما عنه خطأ آخر. وثمة خطأ هو أهم مما تقدم، وهو غفلتهما عن متابعة قوية لـ (زبان) عند الطبراني (رقم ٤٤٠) من طريقين عن ابن وهب: حدثني سعيد بن أبي أيوب عن خير بن نعيم عن سهل بن معاذ به. قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح، رجاله ثقات رجال مسلم إلى سهل بن معاذ. وسهل قد قال فيه الحافظ في "التقريب ":"لا بأس به إلا في روايات زبان عنه ". وقال المنذري في آخر "الترغيب " (٤/٢٨٤):"ضُعف، وحسن له الترمذي، وصحح له أيضاً، واحتج به ابن خزيمة والحاكم وغيرهما، وذكره ابن حبان في (الثقات) ". قلت: فهو حسن الحديث على الأقل إذا كان الراوي عنه ثقة، وقد أخرج له ابن حبان أيضاً حديثاً في النهي عن اتخاذ الدواب كراسي رقم (٥٥٩٠)، وهو مخرج فيما تقدم برقم (٢١). وللحديث شاهد يزداد به قوة من حديث أبي هريرة- ﵁ قال: قيل للنبي ﷺ: ما يعدل الجهاد في سبيل الله ﷿؟ قال:"لا تستطيعونه ".
