for this reason, he included him in "al-Ruwāt al-Mutakallam fīhim bimā lā Yūjib al-Radd" (93/97). Similarly, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but makes mistakes." Furthermore, he is among those whom Muslim relied upon in his "Ṣaḥīḥ," as he narrated several ḥadīths from him, including the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah regarding following the funeral and praying over it, which is cited in "Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz" (p. 89), and was authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān, al-Ḥākim, and others. I say: His ḥadīth should not be considered lower than the rank of ḥasan, especially since it is supported by another chain as mentioned earlier. Moreover, there is a third chain; narrated by Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayr from Usāmah ibn Sahl from his father, who heard Umm al-Dardāʾ say: "I came out of the bathhouse, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) met me..." the ḥadīth. It was recorded by al-Khaṭīb in "al-Muwaḍḍiḥ" (1/395), and he critiqued it by saying (p. 362): "Usāmah ibn Sahl is unknown." I say: This is something that can be learned and added to the well-known books of biographies; for they have omitted it, even "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl," "Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān," "Lisān al-Mīzān," and others! It does not contradict the ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah which Shaykh al-Nājī and others clung to, although Ibn al-Jawzī also criticized it (1), and its wording is: "Women from the people of al-Shām entered upon ʿĀʾishah—may Allāh be pleased with her—and she said: 'Where are you from?'"
