that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on the night he was taken on the Night Journey, said to Gabriel, "My people do not believe me." Gabriel replied to him, "Abū Bakr will believe you, and he is the truthful one." It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (3/1/120), and this chain is weak. Al-Ḥākim narrated (3/62) from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Saʿdī, who reported from Hārūn ibn Saʿd, from ʿImrān ibn Ẓabyān, from Abū Yaḥyá, who heard ʿAlī say: "Allāh, the Exalted, revealed the name of Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) from the heavens as 'the truthful one.'" He said: "If it were not for the ignorance of Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Saʿīdī, I would have judged this chain as authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. (Note) It appeared in "al-Mustadrak" as "al-Saʿdī" and in another place as "al-Saʿīdī," and both are incorrect. The correct name is "al-ʿAbdī" as in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (3/2/269), "al-Mīzān," and "al-Lisān." Moreover, Imām Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭaḥāwī confirmed in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/145) that the reason Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) was named "the truthful one" was due to his precedence in believing the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) regarding his journey to Bayt al-Maqdis from Mecca and his return to his home in Mecca on that night, even though the believers would testify to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about such matters when they became aware of them.
" أن رسول الله ﷺ ليلة أسري به، قلت لجبريل إن قومي لا يصدقوني، فقال له جبريل يصدقك أبو بكر وهو الصديق ". أخرجه ابن سعد في " الطبقات " (٣ / ١ / ١٢٠) وهذا سند ضعيف. وروى الحاكم (٣ / ٦٢) عن محمد بن سليمان السعدي يحدث عن هارون بن سعد عن عمران بن ظبيان عن أبي يحيى سمع عليا: " لأنزل الله تعالى اسم أبي بكر ﵁ من السماء صديقا " وقال: " لولا مكان محمد بن سليمان السعيدي من الجهالة لحكمت لهذا الإسناد بالصحة ". ووافقه الذهبي. (تنبيه) كذا وقع في " المستدرك ": " السعدي " وفي الموضع الآخر: " السعيدي " وكله خطأ والصواب " العبدي " كما في " الجرح والتعديل " (٣ / ٢/ ٢٦٩) و " الميزان " و " اللسان ". هذا وقد جزم الإمام أبو جعفر الطحاوي في " مشكل الآثار " (٢ / ١٤٥) بأن سبب تسمية أبي بكر ﵁ و " الصديق " إنما هو سبقه الناس إلى تصديقه رسول الله ﷺ على إتيانه بيت المقدس من مكة، ورجوعه منه إلى منزله بمكة في تلك الليلة، وإن كان المؤمنون يشهدون لرسول الله ﷺ بمثل ذلك إذا وقفوا عليه.
