"When the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was taken on the Night Journey to al-Masjid al-Aqṣá, people began to talk about it in the morning. Some of those who had believed in him and affirmed him apostatized, and they went to Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) and said: 'Do you know what your companion claims? He claims that he was taken on a journey last night to Bayt al-Maqdis.' He said: 'Did he say that?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'If he said that, then he has spoken the truth.' They said: 'Do you believe him that he went to Bayt al-Maqdis and returned before morning?' He said: 'Yes, I believe him in matters more distant than that. I believe him in the news of the heavens in a morning or an evening.' Therefore, Abū Bakr was called al-Ṣiddīq." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (3/62) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Kathīr al-Ṣanʿānī, who reported from Maʿmar ibn Rāshid, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā), who said: and he mentioned it. He said: "Its isnād is authentic." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: There is some consideration in this, because al-Ṣanʿānī has some weakness in his memory, and for this reason, al-Dhahabī included him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and said: "Aḥmad weakened him." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but makes many mistakes." I say: Someone like him is not used as evidence when he is alone, but he has been corroborated as will be mentioned, so his ḥadīth is therefore authentic. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr attributed it in "al-Tafsīr" (15/138) to al-Bayhaqī (meaning in
