that al-Mizzī attributed to it, I did not find it there—this is one of them—and after further searching for it in its appropriate places, and seeking assistance from its indexes prepared for it. On this occasion, I say: Among the confusions of the three commentators on "al-Targhīb" is that they said in the referencing of this ḥadīth of Anas (4/141-142): "and al-Nasāʾī in 'al-Kubrā'; as in 'Tuhfat al-Ashrāf' (7/25)!" The mentioned number actually refers to the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd mentioned in "al-Targhīb" just before this ḥadīth! There is also its attribution to "al-Tuhfah" with the same mentioned number, except that the number (5) was misprinted as (1) becoming (20); how negligent they are! Then this ḥadīth of Anas has another chain; it is narrated by Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from him similarly; without the phrase about the fingers and the ground. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6418), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (3/368), and in "al-Zuhd" (189/453). Among its supporting narrations is the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): that he drew a square, and drew [a line] in the middle of the square, and [small] lines to the side of the line in the middle of the square, and a line outside the square, and said: "Do you know what this is?" They said: Allāh and His Messenger know best! He said: "This is the human being; the middle line, and these lines to its side: the trials that attack him
