Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab also followed him, saying: al-Awzāʿī narrated to us with it, except that he added at the beginning: "Indeed, Allāh chose from the descendants of Ibrāhīm, Ismāʿīl, and chose from the descendants of Ismāʿīl, Kinānah..." It was recorded by Aḥmad and al-Tirmidhī (2/281), who said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ." I say: Muḥammad ibn Ṣaʿb, who is al-Qurqasānī, is truthful but makes many mistakes as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." So, what he narrates uniquely without the trustworthy narrators is questionable. Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr also followed him, but the narrator from him, Sulaymān ibn Abī Sulaymān, who is al-Zuhrī al-Yamāmī, is weaker than al-Qurqasānī. Ibn Maʿīn said he is nothing. Al-Bukhārī said: his ḥadīth is rejected. The wording of his ḥadīth differs from all others, which is: "Indeed, Allāh chose from the descendants of Ādam, Ibrāhīm, and took him as a friend, then chose from the descendants of Ibrāhīm, Ismāʿīl, then chose from the descendants of Ismāʿīl, Nizār, then chose from the descendants of Nizār, Muḍar, and chose from the descendants of Muḍar, Kinānah, then chose from Kinānah, Quraysh, and chose from Quraysh, Banū Hāshim, and chose from Banū Hāshim, Banū ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, and chose me from Banū ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib."
