that Sahl ibn Abī Ṣadaqah is Hunāʾī, and that Ibn Maʿīn considered him trustworthy. Ibn Maʿīn only said: Ṣadaqah Abū Sahl al-Hunāʾī; trustworthy." I said: I did not find in what the ḥāfiẓ mentioned—let alone those before him—anything that indicates the mentioned distinction, except for the difference in the teachers of the biographers and narrators from them, and this is not sufficient for that, especially since both are Basran, as al-Bukhārī stated, and from the same generation, as Ibn Ḥibbān noted, particularly since Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned in each of them that he is (Abū Sahl al-Hunāʾī), so it appears they are one, as al-Ḥusaynī suggested. What supports this is that Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥākim in "al-Kuná" and al-Dhahabī in "al-Muqtaṇá" mentioned under the kunyah (Abū Sahl): Ṣadaqah al-Hunāʾī, the narrator from Ibn Sīrīn and from whom Mūsá ibn Ismāʿīl narrated. It has been mentioned to you in the narration of "al-Awsaṭ" the explicit statement that the narrator here from Kathīr Abū al-Faḍl is (Ṣadaqah ibn Abī Sahl Abū Sahl al-Hunāʾī), which indicates that (Ṣadaqah Abū Sahl) also narrates from Kathīr Abū al-Faḍl as he narrated from Ibn Sīrīn. Accordingly, a group of trustworthy narrators have narrated from Ṣadaqah, and they are: 1- Muslim ibn Ibrāhīm al-Farāhīdī. 2- Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd. 3- Abū Kāmil al-Jaḥdarī. 4- Mūsá ibn Ismāʿīl. 5- Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik. 6- Saʿīd ibn Abī al-Rabīʿ al-Sammān
