the soothsayer, the fortune-teller, and the astrologer." I said: If you understand this, then among the forms of divination is what was known as "hypnosis," and later as "spirit summoning," which many people engage in today—including some good Muslims—who have taken it up as a profession to earn a living. This involves reciting over someone possessed by a jinn, conversing with it, and claiming that it tells them the reason for its possession of the human, whether out of love or hatred! They may claim that they ask it about its religion, and if it tells them it is Muslim, they believe everything it informs them of! This is the height of heedlessness and misguidance; to believe it without knowing or seeing it. So be cautious of them, O Muslim brother! Do not go to them or believe them, otherwise this authentic ḥadīth and its meaning will apply to you.

- (The Quraysh said to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "Call upon your Lord to make Mount Ṣafā gold for us and we will believe in you!" He said: "And will you do so?" They said: "Yes." So he prayed, and Gabriel came to him and said: "Your Lord sends you peace and says: If you wish, Mount Ṣafā will become gold for them, and whoever disbelieves after that among them, I will punish him with a punishment I will not inflict on anyone else in the worlds. And if you wish, I will open for them the door of repentance and mercy." He said: "Rather, the door of repentance and mercy.")
