"Rūḥ ibn Ghaṭīf al-Thaqafī from ʿUmar ibn Muṣʿab, narrated by Muḥammad ibn Rabīʿah; his ḥadīth is rejected." Then he presented the ḥadīth of (the dirham) through the chain of al-Qāsim ibn Mālik from him, from al-Zuhrī with its previous isnād in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (148), and it appeared in al-Bukhārī as: (Rūḥ ibn Ghaṭīf ibn Abī Sufyān al-Thaqafī), and thus his entry appeared in the book "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" by Ibn Ḥibbān (1/298). As for Ibn Abī Ḥātim, he said: "Rūḥ ibn Ghaṭīf ibn Aʿyan al-Jazarī, narrated from al-Zuhrī and ʿAmr—thus—ibn Muṣʿab ibn al-Zubayr, narrated by ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Ḥarb, al-Qāsim ibn Mālik al-Muzanī, and Muḥammad ibn Rabīʿah. I heard my father say that, and he said: he is not strong; his ḥadīth is very rejected." Thus he named his grandfather (Aʿyan al-Jazarī), so I do not know if this is preserved; for I have not seen it with others, and likewise his statement: "narrated by ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Ḥarb..."? The rest agrees with what is with al-Bukhārī and others. Then I saw the ḥadīth of (the dirham) in "ʿIlal al-Dāraquṭnī" (8/43-44) through the chain of al-Qāsim ibn Mālik mentioned earlier from (Rūḥ ibn Ghaṭīf) with it. Then it was mentioned that Asad ibn ʿAmr al-Bajlī contradicted him and said: "from Ghaṭīf," and al-Dāraquṭnī said: "and he is Rūḥ ibn Ghaṭīf as al-Qāsim ibn Mālik said, and Rūḥ is weak." I said: this strongly indicates that the one who narrated the ḥadīth of (the dirham) is indeed (Rūḥ ibn Ghaṭīf), and not (Ghaṭīf ibn Aʿyan), and that Rūḥ himself is weak, and that (Asad ibn ʿAmr) erred in saying: (Ghaṭīf) instead of (Rūḥ). This was explicitly stated in the book "al-Sunan" (1/401), where it was said following the narration of al-Qāsim ibn Mālik mentioned:
