2- as for the ḥadīth of the one who heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), it is narrated by Maʿmar from Budayl al-ʿUqaylī: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq informed me: that he was informed by someone who heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was in Wādī al-Qurā, and he was on his horse. A man from (Balaqīn) asked him: Who are these? He said: "These are [those who have incurred wrath]." And he pointed to the Jews. He said: Then who are those? He said: "Those are [the misguided], meaning: the Christians." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarī and Aḥmad (5/32-33) through the route of ʿAbd al-Razzāq, and this is in "his Tafsīr" (1/37) where he said: Maʿmar narrated it. I said: And this isnād is authentic as Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir said—may Allāh have mercy on him; because the anonymity of the Companion does not harm [the authenticity]. And I say: But Budayl al-ʿUqaylī has been contradicted, as al-Ṭabarī recorded it from Saʿīd al-Jurayrī and Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq: that a man asked the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)... and he mentioned something similar, but they made it mursal, and this is more authentic. And the narration of Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ: it was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (4/61/4329); but he said: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq from a man from (Balaqīn) from his cousin who said: I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)... and he made it musnad from one side, and inserted a man between ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq and the cousin who was not named. But in the chain to him is Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAlī—who is al-Dhahli—whom I do not know. 3- as for the ḥadīth of Abū Dharr; it was mentioned by al-Suyūṭī in "al-Durr al-Manthūr" (1/16) from the narration of
