This is a chain according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī in his "Ṣaḥīḥ," but it is a mawqūf narration. However, the one who raised it is a reliable authority, namely the Imām al-Ṭayālisī, and the addition of a trustworthy narrator is accepted.

- "Two traits do not coexist in a hypocrite: good demeanor and understanding of religion." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/114): Abū Kurayb narrated to us, saying: Khalaf ibn Ayyūb al-ʿĀmirī narrated to us from ʿAwf from Ibn Sīrīn from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. And he said: "This is a strange ḥadīth, and we do not know this ḥadīth from the narration of ʿAwf except through the narration of this shaykh, Khalaf ibn Ayyūb al-ʿĀmirī, and I have not seen anyone narrate from him other than Abū Kurayb Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAlāʾ, and I do not know how he is." I said: And from this route, it was recorded by al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (p. 153) and Abū Bakr ibn Lāl in "Aḥādīth Abī ʿImrān al-Farrāʾ" (f. 1/2) and al-Harawī in "Dhamm al-Kalām" (1/14/2) and he said: "al-Jārūdī said: Abū Kurayb is the only one who narrated it." I said: He is trustworthy among the men of the two shaykhs, but the issue lies with his shaykh Khalaf, for al-Tirmidhī considered him unknown as you know, and others besides Abū Kurayb narrated from him, such as Imām Aḥmad, Abū Maʿmar al-Qaṭīʿī, and Muḥammad ibn Muqātil al-Marwazī, so he is not unknown, and al-ʿUqaylī narrated from Ibn Maʿīn that he said about him: "A weak Balkhī."
