"The Virtue of Horses" (p. 37) through the route of ʿAbbād—who is Ibn al-ʿAwwām—both from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Muslim ibn Yasār: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ... the ḥadīth. I said: So the man who was not named in the narration of Musaddad is Muslim ibn Yasār, and it appears that he is the Basran Umayyad from Mecca, the jurist, and he is a trustworthy Successor, so it is mursal. And it was narrated as mursal from another route; al-Ṭayālisī said in "Musnad" (1059): Jareer ibn Ḥāzim told us, he said: al-Zubayr ibn al-Kharrīt al-Azdī told us: Nuʿaym ibn Abī Hind al-Ashjaʿī told me, he said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was seen wiping the cheek of a horse, and it was said to him about that? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Gabriel reproached me regarding the horse." And through the route of al-Ṭayālisī: it was extracted by Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr (24/101), and Abū Dāwūd in "al-Marāsīl" (228/291) through the route of Mūsá ibn Ismāʿīl: Jareer narrated it. I said: And this is a sound mursal isnād, but it is from the marāsīl of the Kufans, for this Nuʿaym is a Kufan, so it might give strength to the previous one; due to the difference in their regions and their teachers, especially since it has come as musnad; Abū Bishr Yūnus ibn Ḥabīb—who is the narrator of "Musnad al-Ṭayālisī"—said after the ḥadīth: Aḥmad ibn al-Furāt informed us from Muslim ibn Ibrāhīm from Saʿīd ibn Zayd from al-Zubayr ibn Kharrīt from Nuʿaym ibn Abī Hind from ʿUrwah—meaning: ʿUrwah al-Bāriqī—and in "Musnad" he narrated it, and for this reason; al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar erred when he attributed it to al-Ṭayālisī in "al-Maṭālib"! And he said in the biography of Saʿīd ibn Zayd from "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but he has errors."
