- "O Allāh, suffice me with what is lawful against what is unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace over all besides You." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (4/276), al-Ḥākim (1/538), and Aḥmad (1/153) from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq al-Qurashī from Sayyār Abū al-Ḥakam from Abū Wāʾil who said: "A man came to ʿAlī and said: O Commander of the Believers, I am unable to fulfill my contract of manumission, so help me. ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) said: Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) taught me, which if you had a debt as large as Mount Ṣīr in gold, Allāh would pay it off for you? I said: Yes, indeed. He said: Say [the supplication]," and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "It is a good and rare ḥadīth." Al-Ḥākim said: "It has a sound chain of transmission." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: The correct view is that it has a good chain of transmission, as al-Tirmidhī said, for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq, who is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Kinānah al-ʿĀmirī al-Qurashī, their client, is a subject of differing opinions, but he was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Maʿīn and al-Bukhārī.
