"with a sound isnād"! and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! Thus they both said, and this ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Walīd—who is the Egyptian—was not deemed reliable by anyone except Ibn Ḥibbān, and al-Dāraqutnī said: "His ḥadīth is not to be considered." And al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "His ḥadīth is weak." And al-Dhahabī left it blank in "al-Kāshif"! *

- (The Prophet ﷺ was born in the Year of the Elephant). It is narrated from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās and Qays ibn Makhramah. As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās; it is narrated by Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad: He informed us from Yūnus ibn Abī Isḥāq from his father from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from him. It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (1/101) who said: Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn informed us: Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad informed us of it, and its wording is: "on the Day of the Elephant, meaning: the Year of the Elephant." And "from his father" is missing from its isnād; it might be due to the scribe or the copyist. It was also recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in "al-Thiqāt" (1/14), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (12/47/12432), al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (1/75-76), and Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (1/400) through other chains from Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn with the wording: "the Year of the Elephant" without saying: "on the Day of the Elephant, meaning." And al-Bayhaqī reversed this, saying: "on the Day of the Elephant" without saying: "meaning the Year of the Elephant"!
