- "O assembly of women! Give charity, for I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you, and I have seen that you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell on the Day of Resurrection. So draw near to Allāh as much as you can." Among the women was the wife of Ibn Masʿūd... and he continued the ḥadīth. She asked, "What is the deficiency in our religion and intelligence, O Messenger of Allāh?" He replied, "As for the deficiency in your religion, it is due to the menstruation that befalls you, for one of you may stay without praying for as long as Allāh wills. As for the deficiency in your intelligence, it is because the testimony of a woman is half that of a man." It was recorded by Muslim (1/61), al-Nasāʾī in "al-Kubrā" (5/400/9271), Ibn Khuzaymah in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (4/106-107) - partially -, al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (1/309), Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (2/373-374), Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (11/462-464), and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "al-Tamhīd" (3/323-324) - and the context is his - all from the route of Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr from Abū Saʿīd al-Maqburī from Abū Hurayrah: that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) turned away from the morning prayer, came to the women in the mosque, stood over them, and said: ... and he mentioned it. The context is from Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, and Muslim did not narrate his wording, but rather referred to the wording of the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar, which he narrated before, saying: "With the same meaning as the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." Therefore, Ibn Kathīr allowed in his "Tafsīr" (1/335) to attribute it to Muslim, saying:
