"you withheld the zakāt and intended to kill my messenger?!" He said: "No, by the One who sent you with the truth! I neither saw him nor did he come to me, and I only came when the Messenger of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was delayed; I feared it might have been a displeasure from Allāh and His Messenger." He said: Then the verse was revealed: "O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful" up to this point: "as a favor from Allāh and a blessing. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise." (Sūrat al-Ḥujurāt, verses 6-8) It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/279), Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Afrād" (4/322/2353), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (3/310-311) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Sābiq: narrated to us by ʿĪsá ibn Dīnār with it. I said: This isnād is authentic; all its men are trustworthy and mentioned in "al-Tahdhīb." Therefore, al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr said in "al-Tafsīr": "It is among the best paths of the ḥadīth." And al-Suyūṭī said in "al-Durr al-Manthūr" (6/87): "Its chain is good." And al-Ḥāfiẓ remained silent about it in the biography of (al-Ḥārith) in "al-Iṣābah." As for in the biography of (al-Walīd ibn ʿUqbah); after he presented the story from various mursal sources, he said: "al-Ṭabarānī narrated it connected from al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Ḍirār al-Muṣṭalaqī in a lengthy form, and in the isnād is someone unknown!"
