- "The adornment of the believer reaches where the ablution reaches." Authentic from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, explicitly stating he heard it from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). It has two chains from him: the first is from Khalaf ibn Khalīfah, from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī, from Abū Ḥāzim, who said: "I was behind Abū Hurayrah while he was performing ablution for prayer, and he would extend his hand until it reached his armpit. I said to him: 'O Abū Hurayrah, what is this ablution?' He replied: 'O Banū Farūkh, are you here? If I had known you were here, I would not have performed this ablution! I heard my beloved (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say:' and he mentioned it." It was recorded by Muslim (1/151), Abū ʿAwānah (1/244), al-Nasāʾī (1/35), al-Bayhaqī (1/56), and Aḥmad (2/371) from him. Khalaf has some weakness due to his memory and he had become confused, but he was followed up by Abū ʿAwānah through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs, who said: I heard Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī with it in the wording: "He said: I saw him performing ablution and he would reach with the water to his upper arms. I said: What is this? He said: And you are around me, O Banū Farūkh? I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: The adornment reaches the places of purification." And this is a sound isnād without any blemish. The other chain is from Yaḥyá ibn Ayyūb al-Bajalī, from Abū Zurʿah, who said: "I entered upon Abū Hurayrah and he performed ablution up to his shoulders and to his knees. I said to him: Will you not suffice with what Allāh has obligated upon you from this? He said: Yes, but I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: The extent of the adornment is the extent of the ablution, so I wished that it would increase my adornment." It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (1/40): Ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us from Yaḥyá with it. And it was referenced by Abū ʿAwānah in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/243). I say: And this is a good chain, all its men are trustworthy, the men of the "Ṣaḥīḥayn" except for this Yaḥyá, and he is trustworthy by consensus except for a narration from Ibn Maʿīn, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
