lahīʿah is paired; however, he is trustworthy in himself, his ḥadīth is authentic when the ʿAbādilah narrate from him, and one of them has narrated this from him: ʿAbd Allāh—who is Ibn al-Mubārak—and al-Haythamī overlooked this and criticized it by saying (2/60): "And in it is Ibn Lahīʿah, and there is some discussion about him"! *from his humility (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and generosity.

- "you stepped on my foot with your sandal yesterday and hurt me, so I struck you with the whip; here are eighty sheep, take them for that." It was recorded by al-Dārimī (1/34-35) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr narrated to me from a man among the Arabs who said: I jostled with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on the day of Ḥunayn, and I had a thick sandal on my foot, so I stepped on the foot of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he struck me with a whip in his hand, saying: "In the name of Allāh, you hurt me." He said: I spent the night blaming myself, saying: I hurt the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and I spent a night as Allāh knows. When morning came, a man said: Where is so-and-so? I said: By Allāh, it was me yesterday. He said: So I went, fearing, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to me... and he mentioned it. I said: This is a good isnād, all its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim; except that he only included Ibn Isḥāq as a corroborative narrator, but he has explicitly stated the narration; thus we are safe from his tadlīs, so it is a valid proof; especially in the prophetic biography.
